William Hewlett and David Packard established their company in 1939 after graduating with degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in the US. The company had a humble start being founded in a garage in California with an initial investment of just $538. Today Hewlett-Packard (HP) is regarded by many as one of the founding companies of Silicon Valley and continues to forge ahead with the invention and manufacture of a wide range of technology. This includes scanners, digital cameras, calculators, PDAs, servers and personal computers as well as printers and photocopiers.
In 2005 HP described their Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) as “the leading imaging and printing systems provider in the world for printer hardware, printing supplies and scanning devices, providing solutions across customer segments from individual consumers to small and medium businesses to large enterprises”.
